Pursuant to Elections Code section 9004 (c), we transmit herewith a copy of the Title and Summary prepared by the Attorney General on a proposed initiative measure entitled:

Presidential Primary Election: Natural Disaster/Emergency Procedures

Should a natural disaster or other emergency occur on or close to Election Day, elections officials may encounter issues that could affect their ability to conduct an election in compliance with state law.

The California Elections Code provides a number of legal options California elections officials and the Governor can exercise in the case of an emergency.

The Secretary of State's office has created the attached document for elections officials to use as a resource should they be confronted with a natural disaster or other emergency.

Molly Munger, Roberta B. Johansen, and James C. Harrison, the proponents of TAX FOR EDUCATION AND EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS. INITIATIVE STATUTE. have filed more than 504,760 signatures with the counties.

Therefore, pursuant to Elections Code section 9030(d), you are required to verify 500 signatures or three percent of the number of signatures filed, whichever is greater. If you received less than 500 signatures, you are required to verify all the signatures filed with your office and certify the number of valid signatures.

Report of Registration: 15-Day Reporting Forms for Presidential Primary Election

Elections Code section 2187(d)(3) requires each county to send a summary statement of the number of persons registered in their county as of 15 days prior to each primary election. As such, please send us your registration numbers as of the close of business on May 21, 2012, as soon after the close of registration as possible, but no later than May 29, 2012.
